Just F it.

I’ve written a fair bit already about my Fight Flee Flow system and how I have seen the three-pronged approach support my own life but what I haven’t spoken much about is the fourth (unofficial) F. I haven’t included the fourth F intentionally because I think that first, a sound understanding of Fight Flee Flow is necessary to fully appreciate the final F.

“Giving zero f*cks” is the actual outcome from the rigorous and disciplined pursuit of Fight Flee Flow balance. Once you are confident in applying your own carefully crafted and intentional approach to Figh Flee Flow in your day-to-day life (through trial and error) you’ll reach a stage when you just say: “f it!”

In no way am I suggesting that you merely let go of everything and let things fall to the waste side. To the contrary, you will have built a sound enough foundational base that will enable you to engage in the pursuit of new challenges that once seemed too daunting. Your aversion to risk will be subdued to healthy doses. Your inclination to avoid rejection will be tempered and your desire to experience the thrill of failure will be awakened in the name of new beginnings.

The goal is not fearlessness but it is freedom. Let the F be a placeholder for your future self as you endeavor to live in the now. As the Nike ad says: “Just do it”. F is the ultimate doing. F is the fantasy we lose in the process of relinquishing our childlike spirit in favor of constrained and rigid thinking, unimaginative possibilities and the burden of past mistakes. F is your permission to leap towards your next adventure with the confidence of limitless landings and the knowledge that gravity is your friend. Just F it!
